Lovers of Valdaro

Updated: Feb 2, 2021

The brilliantly named Swedish duo The Lovers of Valdaro describe their music as euphoric melancholic electronica. Adam Warhester's pulsating synths and judicious saxophone provide the perfect context for Erik Gabriel's soaring vocals.

Judging by their Spotify playlists they've both done their 80s electro-pop homework. However, their cover versions are very left of center: the Italo classic 'Another Brick' by fellow-Swedes Fake, and Levi-model Nick Kamen's 1990 Nordic-hit 'I Promised Myself'. However, it is their original compositions that really shine.

Their latest single 'Eternal Embrace' is perhaps their finest moment yet: a shimmering work of desolate disco delectation. However, there is a back catalogue of bangers that all sound like they should have been number 1 in a parallel fantasy version of the 80s including 'Walk Alone', 'Lost Forever', and 'Rhythm and Decibel'. Fingers-crossed for live dates in the UK in 2021.

Oh, and the name is a reference to two neolithic skeletons found embracing each other by archeologists in Mantua in 2007...
